ICPSR Summer Program in Quantitative Methods

• Course Title: Sensitivity Analysis: Quantifying the Robustness of Inferences to Alternative Factors or Data
• Overview: A 20-instruction-hour workshop covering statistical tools (R, Stata, KonFound-It! Shiny App) to quantify the strength of evidence necessary to inform policy, practice, or social science.

Key Course Goals

• Understand basic sensitivity analysis frameworks based on omitted variables and potential outcomes.
• Conduct and interpret sensitivity analyses from published outputs.
• Apply sensitivity analysis directly to your own studies.

• Title: What Would it Take to Change Your Inference? Informing Collaborative Evidence Generation and Evaluation
• Part I: Using potential outcomes to evaluate how much bias (case replacement) is needed to nullify an effect.
• Part II: Quantifying robustness in terms of correlations with unobserved confounding variables.
• Hands-on Practice: Module demonstrations using R, Stata, and the KonFound-It! web app.

• Title: What Would It Take to Change Your Inference? Informing Broad Stakeholder Debate about Research across Systems
• Coverage: Bivariate and multivariate models, logistic regression, difference-in-differences, hazard models, propensity scores, and mediation.
• Comparisons: Hands-on comparisons with alternative sensitivity techniques (e.g., Oster’s COP, Cinelli & Hazlett’s Robustness Index).
